A new species of Phanera Lour., Phanera trichosepalaL.P.Queiroz, is described and illustrated. It is known from the States of Bahia and MinasGerais, in caatinga and seasonally dry forests. Additionaly, three new combinations are proposed in Phanera for species previously treated as Bauhinia: Phanera flexuosa (Moric.) L.P.Queiroz, Phanera microstachya (Raddi ) L.P.Queiroz, and Phanera ouitmouta (Aubl.) L.P.Queiroz.
